Members of the Media and friends gathered at the National Press Club of Malaysia’s premises for the recent Chinese New Year get together.

Held on Feb 7, 2020, at the clubhouse in Jalan Tangsi, the event was made even memorable with the presence of Communications and Multimedia Minister Rt. Hon. Gobind Singh Deo.

Gobind, the first minister from the Pakatan Harapan government to visit the clubhouse, was elated to be part of the gathering, adding this was a good way to establish good ties among friends and the media family.

He also highlighted the ministry’s efforts in getting the Media Council going, hoping to see the establishment up and running soon.

The creation of a Media Council in Malaysia has been a talking point within the industry for decades.
A pro-tem committee was set up earlier this year to look into the finer details of the Council. The NPC is part of the committee.

NPC president Datuk Ahirudin Attan thanked Gobind for attending the event and welcomed the Rt Hon MP Puchong to future such events.

Ahirudin later presented a memento to Gobind as guests later tossed ‘yee sang’ which was sponsored by Swiss-Garden Hotel Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur. Ahirudin also presented Francis Yew long time supporter of the National Press Club a Pewter mug as a token of appreciation. Yew had recently retired from Heineken as its National Trade and Association manager.

Others present were aviation veteran Tan Sri Bashir Ahmad Abdul Majid, Ancom Bhd executive chairman Datuk Seri Siew Ka Wei, senior lawyer Datuk Seri Jahaberdeen Mohamed Yunoos, Singapore High Commission’s First Secretary (Public Affairs) Syed Arafat Hussain and Malaysia Global Business Forum founding chairman Nordin Abdullah as they were entertained by Nova Band.

The night ended on a high as many returned with lucky draw gifts which included a 3D2N trip for two to Langkawi thanks to WL Travels, two mobile phones courtesy of Maxis and football jerseys sponsored by the Football Association of Malaysia.

The other sponsors who made the gathering possible were Tenaga Nasional Bhd, Malaysia Airports, Humble Cafe, Dialog, Eagle Ranch Resort Port Dickson, Datuk Seri Siew Ka Wei, Datuk Low Beng Choo and Datuk Ow Soon Kooi.

Across the city at Wisma MCA in Jalan Ampang, another Chinese New Year gathering came alive with Rt Hon Datuk Seri Wee Ka Siong MP Ayer Hitam fete media members and friends of MCA.
