THE incoming Chief Executive Officer of national news agency Bernama would be an individual who would continue to ensure the media brand would remain relevant and credible.

Several candidates have been shortlisted and an announcement is expected soon.

The corporate upper echelon changes came about after Bernama Board of Governors announced on Thursday that out-going CEO Nurini Kassim would be ending her contract effective May 16.

Board Chairman Suhaimi Sulaiman said it was decided Editor-in-Chief Datuk Mokhtar Hussain would continue the duties of the CEO until the appointment is announced.

“It is normal for any business organisation to continue finding the right professional leader to make the organisation strong,” he said in a statement.

He further said the news agency would continue to move forward to become the Number One news brand in thought leadership.

Nurini Kassim

Nurini was appointed CEO of BERNAMA on Jan 2, 2019, after a 20-year management experience in various industries including government institutions and information technology.

Mokhtar commenced his journalism career in in early 80s and helmed numerous positions with the agency’s news team, audio and visual, and information technology.

He is also adviser to the National Press Club Malaysia.
