KUCHING: The state-level edition of National Journalists’ Day (Hawana) 2025 and Sarawak Media Conference (SMeC) will place a strong emphasis on artificial intelligence (AI) in media, the evolving role of radio and greater inclusion of content creators, editors and behind-the-scenes media personnel.

The Borneo Post quoted Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan as saying the two events will be held back-to-back somewhere between May and July.

“SMeC will run for one-and-a-half days, and will feature speakers from outside Malaysia. Discussions will revolve around the influence of AI on media, as well as dedicated sessions on the current and future relevance of radio stations.

“There are suggestions for talks focusing on how to revitalise radio as a platform, so it isn’t seen as a sunset industry. We will work with RTM, Kopi-Kopi FM and others to explore this,” he told reporters during ‘Ukas Berambeh Raya 2025’ at English Tea House on April 9, 2025.
