Media practitioners from all over Southeast Asia will gather in Kuala Lumpur next month for the 2025 National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA).

The event, scheduled on June 14 at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur, serves as a platform to enhance ties, foster cooperation, and address emerging challenges in the media industry.

Organised by the Ministry of Communications, and national news agency BERNAMA, this year’s event will carry the torch of previous editions through a series of programmes. They include a ‘pantun’ recital event in collaboration with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) on May 31, a pre-launch ceremony with strategic partners at Wisma Bernama on June 3, and a media forum co-organised with the Malaysian Press Institute (MPI) on June 14.

Bernama chief executive officer, Datin Paduka Nur-ul Afida Kamaludin said the event, to be officiated by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, will be participated by some 1,000 media practitioners from local and international organisations.

“We are also inviting media colleagues from ASEAN countries in conjunction with Malaysia’s role as ASEAN chair this year,” she said.
