Datuk Nuraina Samad, a respected trustee of the National Press Club (NPC) Malaysia, has recently been celebrated by her alma mater, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM).
She was inducted into the Faculty of Communication & Media Studies Hall of Fame, marking a significant acknowledgment of her stellar career in journalism.
The induction was part of the faculty’s inaugural Hall of Fame presentation, which aims to honour and remember a selection of its accomplished alumni. This selection and presentation will be held every two years.
“I am very touched. This is something new. And I’m glad they are going to do this to honour more people,” said Nuraina, reflecting on the profound meaning of the recognition.
For her, the event brought back “precious unforgotten memories of endurance, friendship, and the fleeting meaning of work and play,” essentially marking where her remarkable journey all began.
Nuraina graduated from UiTM in 1978 and immediately started her internship with the New Straits Times (NST). Her dedication saw her remain with the company for nearly three decades, until she departed in 2006.
Following her time at NST, Nuraina explored new avenues, joining KLIA Times and diving into the world of blogging. She also enjoyed a brief stint with Tell Magazine. Her expertise eventually brought her back to her roots, returning to NST in 2009 to serve as its managing editor until 2014. Later, she took on the role of managing editor at The Mole, where she worked up until last year.
